A lesson they will remember!

A lesson they will remember!
Year ones had a lot of fun on a cold day!. They had already done some work in the classroom testing materials over a bowl, using water. I took this outside with large sheets of  4 different fabrics, (2 waterproof and 2 not waterproof). We asked them to make predictions as it's never too early to use some of the scientific language and skills they will encounter later in school. Testing the effect of a hose pipe over the sheets of fabric produced shrieks of delight as they either got wet (with hoods on) or just heard/saw the water spraying over them. This was a vivid, active investigation for their materials science unit. Many of these children are ESL too, so this really helped them to understand more about the topic. It also emphasises the essential need for good outdoor clothing to be in school at all times, so no child is denied an outdoor learning experience like this.
